Extracurricular Activities: Community College Student Life
The notion that community colleges lack campus life and activities are untrue. Depending on the size of your college there can be an abundance of activities and clubs to join. Most community colleges will offer honors societies which may require a minimum GPA (grade point average) and involvement in community service. If you want to help ensure your spot in college, an honors society is looked on favorably by admissions officers. In some cases, if you fulfill all the requirements of the honors society, your academic transcript will be annotated with your involvement. Whether you are interested in history, social justice, art, or the environment, there is probably a club or group on your campus to join. Colleges prefer that you show leadership in one or two activities as opposed to being a member of a dozen. This is a case when quality is more valuable than quantity. If you choose to be actively involved by becoming a group officer, it is something you can always add to your academic resume. If a club you’re interested in does not exist, and you feel there is a need that isn’t met, you can always start your own club. Being the founder of a club shows you have the drive and initiative to successfully accomplish a goal. Recommended reading: How to Ace Your Way Through College and Still Have a Life!
